Using a stencil brush is fun and easy to learn with our step by step instructions.
Due to it's shape a stencil brush is very easy to use.
A stencil brush is a short stubby brush with flat bristles thats' very easy to use. The flat bristles allow you to control the paint. Unlike a regular paint brush you never tip a stencil brush, always hold it perpendicular. Stencil brushes come in a variety of sizes from 1/4" up to 3" in diameter.
1. Layout all of the stencil brushes that you'll need for your project. Use one for each color paint that you'll be using. 2. Spray your stencil with stencil adhesive & tape it to the wall. 3. Use a brayer to smooth out your stencil.
It's necessary to blot your stencil brush on a paper towel before you start to stencil so that you can control the amount of paint. When stenciling, don't over load your brush or the paint may run under your stencil.
4. Hold your stencil brush perpendicular and dip all of the bristles into the paint. 5. Blot your stencil brush onto a paper towel, removing most of the paint. You want to stencil with a dry brush. 6. Hold your stencil brush level and begin pouncing or swirling your brush around the edge of your stencil. To swirl, hold the stencil brush flat against your stencil and swirl the brush handle. This pushes the paint into the stencil.
Using your stencil brush to randomly pounce and swirl will allow your paint to dry and ensure that you don't overload any one area of your stencil.
7. Continue randomly pouncing or swirling with your stencil brush until you have your entire stencil filled in. Smooth out the edges so that your stencil doesn't turn out blochy. 8. Check to make sure that you haven't missed any areas before you remove your stencil.
9. If you go slow and apply small amounts of paint at a time you'll end up with a clean, crisp stencil.
