Stenciling with a sponge roller

Stenciling with a sponge roller is one of the fastest and easiest ways to stencil. Give roller stenciling a try if you want to create a crisp, clean stencil in no time at all.

The supplies that you need to stencil with a sponge roller are:

Mylar stencil Acrylic paint in your choice of color
Painters tape Paper plate
Brayer Paper towels
Stencil adhesive Sponge roller and tray
Sponge rollers are great for stenciling because they hold the paint and allow you to apply thin layers.

Using both stencil adhesive and painters tape will firmly secure your stencil.

Use a brayer to smooth down your stencil so paint doesn't run under it.
1. The advantage to stenciling with a sponge roller is that you can build up multiple thin layers without the blochy effects that you can sometimes get with a brush. 2. Start by spraying your mylar stencil with adhesive and then taping it to the wall. 3. Use a brayer to smooth out your stencil. This will get rid of an airbubbles and firmly secure your stencil.
Roll on multiple thin layers of paint. Stenciling with a sponge roller is one of the fastest and easiest ways to stencil. Carefully remove your stencil.
4. Roll your sponge roller through your paint until the entire roller is coverer. Even out your paint by off loading some of the paint onto a paper plate.
5. Continue applying thin layers of paint until you've covered your entire stencil.
6. Speed up the drying time by drying your stencil with a blow dryer. Remove your tape, then slowly remove your mylar stencil.
7. Using a sponge roller will give you a crisp, clean stencil. Other rollers fling the paint around while a sponge roller lets you control the paint.
