How to Decoupage Shoes

Decoupage an old pair of shoes to give them new life and create a fun fashion accessory. Why decoupage shoes... because is was fun. I was looking for something unique to decoupage when I came across an old pair or shoes in a thrift store. Since decoupage glue seems to stick to anything I thought that I'd give it a try. Because the shoes had a smooth surface the decoupage glue (Mod Podge) worked great. This is an easy low cost idea for a Halloween outfit or just a unique conversation piece.

Start with an old pair of shoes with a smooth surface.

I used Mod Podge gloss lustre for this project. Put a thin layer of Mod Podge on your shoe. I found that using smaller pieces of medium weight tissue paper worked best.
Continue covering your shoe, letting the tissue paper hang over the edge. Bend the edges in along the inside of the shoe. Use a utility knife to trim along the sole, removing the overhanging paper. Finish off your shoe by adding 2 layers of glossy Mod Podge.
If you miss an area you can add more tissue paper and Mod Podge to touch up.
