Glittering raised snowflakes on glass are easy to create and will give your home a festive holiday glow. Raised stencils aren't just for walls, they can also be used on windows, wood, foam, paper and even some plastic. They're a fun, inexpensive way to create a colorful, glittering Christmas display. With the variety of different decorative stencils, acrylic paints, and glitter available the ideas are endless. And who says that snowflakes have to be white, mix in different color acrylics, and sprinkle in some extreme glitter for some real sparkle.

1. Tape snowflake stencil to your window. You can also use a spray adhesive to help hold the stencil in place.
2. Put a good sized dollop of stencil paste on your stencil. 3. Slowly spread the stencil paste. Gently push down so that the paste pushes into all the areas of the stencil. 4. After your stencil is covered, remove the tape on the bottom and sides, leaving only tape at the top of the stencil. Lifting from the bottom slowly, remove the stencil.

Stencil Paste Extreme Glitter Snowflake Stencils (kit) Lumiere Metallic
Stencil Paste takes about 24 hours to dry. Once it's dry it has the texture of soft rubber. It works best on porous surfaces and adheres to wood, glass, cardstock, foam and even some types of plastic.
Extreme glitter - I refer to this as sparkling sugar. Extreme glitter is much finer then other glitters, spreads very smooth, and doesn't clump. The color is extreme enough that you can use it like a sparkling paint or add it over a similar paint color for more contrast. Just a small dab of this goes a long way. It cost more then other glitters but, it's well worth the price.
Raised stencils are also knows as 3D or Dimensional stencils. They're made from a heavy grade material. They're easy to clean up with soap and water and you can reuse them multiple times. These can be purchases alone or in a kit.

Gold Lumiere is an artist acrylic paint that works on a variety of different surfaces. It goes on smooth and has a shiny metallic appearance. I used this as a base coat on the gold snowflake for a more intense color and shine.

Raised (3D or Dimensional) stencils are fun and easy to create. Even so, not every stencil will turn out as you hope. I've had my share of stencils that smeared, didn't cover completely or were just a little weird looking. However, I don't feel that raised stencils have to be perfect and maybe it's better that way. Making crafts is creative fun and sometimes mistakes happen. So if you make a mistake, do what I do.. paint over it.. add more glitter.. and keep on stenciling.
